Jobs face transformation, not one automation story
The ILO’s updated exposure index finds broad exposure and a continuing need for human input.
What the research says
The ILO estimates that one in four workers is in an occupation with some degree of generative-AI exposure. Its task-level method covers nearly 30,000 tasks and distinguishes levels of exposure.
The report says transformation is the more likely outcome for most jobs because human input remains necessary.
Exposure is not destiny
Technical possibility does not determine how work is reorganised or who benefits. Builders should involve the people doing the task and track autonomy, quality and error as well as speed.
Redesign tasks with workers and measure job quality with productivity.
