What a useful pilot actually tests
A small experiment, a clear baseline and permission to learn.
Start with the experience
A useful pilot starts with a task the team can already describe. Record how it works today, choose a representative set of cases and decide what improvement would matter. Include difficult cases from the beginning. A pilot that reveals a limit has produced useful information, even if it does not lead to a rollout.
Why it matters to an AIpreneur
Define the stopping conditions before starting. Creating economic value means connecting a capability to a useful outcome for someone. That connection depends on the setting: the people involved, the resources available and the consequences when a result is wrong. A convincing demonstration cannot answer all of those questions.
A practical starting point is to follow one piece of work from beginning to end. Ask where people spend time, what they need to trust and which decisions carry consequences. Keep the existing process available while testing a change, so the comparison reflects the work rather than an idealised version of it.
Questions for the conversation
What surprised you in the first attempt? Which assumption did a customer challenge? Where did the tool help, and where did you decide to step back? What would you want another builder to understand before trying something similar?
Define the stopping conditions before starting.
The question behind every AIpreneur piece: why does this matter to someone building, creating or contributing to the AI economy?
